About the Japan International Dispute Resolution Center (JIDRC)

In June 2017, “Basic Policy on Economic and Fiscal Management and Reform 2017” was approved by the Cabinet of Japan. It aimed to “develop a foundation to activate international arbitration” in Japan as one of the important policies of the Japanese Government. In September 2017, “the Liaison Conference of Relevant Ministries and Agencies” for the policy was established in the Japanese Government. And in December 2017, responding to the governmental movement, “the Liaison Council” for the policy was also established by the entities in the private sector, which relates to arbitration and other types of ADR.

Under the cooperation of the public and private sectors, in February 2018, the Japan International Dispute Resolution Center (JIDRC) was established. And, in May 2018, the Japan International Dispute Resolution Center (Osaka) (JIDRC-Osaka) started its operation as the first-ever-recorded facilities specialized for a hearing of international arbitration or other types of ADR in Japan.

The JIDRC aims to establish the same facilities for a hearing of arbitration and other types of ADR in Tokyo, the JIDRC-Tokyo, in the very near future.
